In Barcelona: Restaurants

In a big city like Barcelona it is very easy to find a lot of places to get food, in the busy centre you see a lot of small shops where you can buy a kind of different food, however to get a real fine place you need to look a bit harder. 


Some restaurants are looking fine but the food disappoint, other restaurants are small and cozy but are famous for there good kitchen. Fish, tapas and cheese are the most popular dishes the city has to offer. 


To help you, I have made a list of the 5 best restaurants in Barcelona.

Los Caracoles


Kitchen: Local Catalan kitchen

Price range:15 - 50 euros for main dish Specialties: Open kitchen, dishes are cooked on wood. Where: Gothic neighbourhood (c/Escudellers 14, metro L3 Drassanes)

Los Caracoles is one of the oldest restaurants of Barcelona, the restaurant was founded in 1835 by the Bofarull family and was first named Can Bofarull, later the restaurant was renamed after one of its most famous dishes, Los Caracoles. 


The special part about this restaurant is that it looks a bit like a maze. This resulted out the of the frequent expanding, the restaurant was doing so well, the family started buying  adjacent properties. 

Fun detail: by entering the restaurant you go through the kitchen first, where wood is still used to make the dishes.



El Nacional


Kitchen: Spanish kitchen Price range: 25 - 40 euros for a dinner Specialties: Biggest restaurant of Spain, located at the most expensive street of the country. Where: Eixample (Passeig de Gràcia 24, metro Passeig de Gràcia)

El Nacional is the biggest restaurant of the country, it actually excists of multiple restaurant in one building. Finding something you like won't be hard as you can find here a lot of different choice! 

The building has a rich history since its construction. Since then it housed a café-theatre, fabric dye factory, a car dealer's shop and finally a garage. 

The building is open from 12 AM to 1 AM, so it is perfect to get something to eat or drink during shopping!


Flax & Kale


Kitchen: Vegetarian, vegan and raw Price range: 14 - 20 euros for main dish Specialties: Industrial design Where: El Raval (c/Tallers 74, metro L1 Universitat) en El Born (c/Sant Pere Mes Alt 31, metro L1 Urquinaona)

This restaurant is famous for its beautiful industrial design, and therefore a lot of influencer have been herre to try its best dishes. The restaurant is mainly focused on fresh, healthy and no meat. However, it is possible to get fish. 


The company became so successful after rebranding and innovation the already existing brand: Teresa Charles. They implemented their ideas from some major cities all over the world.


Bar Cañete


Kitchen: Spanish Price range: 40 - 50 euros for main dish, drink and desert Specialties: open kitchen Where: El Raval (c/Unió 17, metro L3 Drassanes)

This really is such a place you stay for too long and order to much food at, the reason for this is its open kitchen and the cosiness the plays brings with it. 

The restaurant is famous for its Paella, which changes everyday from price and composition. 

However, they also have the most delicious cheese, Spanish ham and fresh fish. Something to take in account is, that the restaurant is closed on Sundays.


Salamanca


Kitchen: Spanish, mostly fish Price range: 39 - 50 euros for a menu Specialties: Location, at the beach Where: La Barceloneta (C/Almirall Cervera 27, metro L4 Barceloneta)

This restaurant is favourite to many celebrities such as Piqué and Shakira. It is famous for its perfect location, straight next to the beach. Therefore it is perfect to get a drink when you are a day at the beach.
